Bernadel L. Jefferson, Democrat
Candidate for: Genesee County Board of Commissioners - 1st District
Response:*
“I am a public servant at heart who has experience and a proven history of private and public service, advocacy and community involvement. Since the early 1970’s, I have been at the forefront of community improvement sharing ideas, traveling to Lansing to make our voice heard on Capitol Hill, and working with organizations and advisory groups such as the Boys and Girls Club of Flint, F.A.C.E.D., Citizens Crime Task Force, NAACP and AARP to bring about positive change and have experienced many successes. As an elected official, I have served as a Genesee County Precinct Delegate for the past two terms. As a pastor, I have experience managing people, resources and a large budget for three different churches and a responsibility to keep abreast of my parishioner’s and community’s concerns – I have the pulse of the people.
As a lifelong resident who takes ownership in my community, I remain apprised of local and state policies to make informed decisions, troubleshoot and to initiate positive change. Even while campaigning for this office, I have met constituents who made me aware of problems within the first district, such as flooding and inadequate sewer drainage that I was able to help them quickly resolve. This isn’t something that I started doing over night. This is second nature for me and very much a part of who I am. As a county commissioner, my knowledge, experience and alliances would be better utilized to assist the people of Genesee County on a broader scale.”
